Ervand Kotchar Museum

Ervand Kotchar - 100

In 1997 UNESCO passes a decision to celebrate Kotchar's 100th jubilee under its high protection, putting his name on the list of "Outstanding Dates".

Kochar's creative heritage is one of the significant phenomena of the twentieth century Armenian and world fine art. His work has its place im the French modern art history as well. Having lived and worked in France during 1923-36 Kochar has been exhibited along with such masters as Picasso, Leget, Matisse, Arp and others. He has invented a new mode of plastic expression in art; so-called "painting in space" or "space painting".
After he was established in his Motherland in 1937, the great artist underwent persecution and was forced to taste the darkness of the KGB dungeons, and more terribly, the spiritual restrictions of the time.

About 100th anniversary of Kochar's birthday.
